How Things Haven’t Changed During the Pandemic

As we are all experiencing during COVID-19 pandemic, our lives have been turned upside down. Most of us have been told to stay home and quarantine and only go out to the stores and in public when absolutely necessary. There has been so much change in our lives, but the one thing that hasn’t changed for me is the desire to be financially independent and to have income streams beyond my 9-5 job and to share this with working moms.

I know people who are working a corporate job either have their salary reduced, some by 20%, their benefits reduced, such as the match on their 401(k) stopped, been furloughed, or have lost their jobs. It makes me sick to think that most of these people don’t have more than a paycheck’s worth of savings to fall back on and don’t have any additional income they can depend on, beyond signing up for unemployment. This has to change and that is the reason I started this blog.

There are so many people out there, specifically working moms, who need help. They either have no idea about how to save more money, how to invest their money, or how to earn additional income beyond their 9-5 job. They only know how to get paid by someone else and think that is the only way it is. When I talk to friends, so many of them think being able to retire early or earn a side income where they don’t have to work a corporate job for the rest of their lives is a dream or a scam. I want to share everything I have learned with them, but most aren’t open to hearing it since it is not something they believe.

This needs to change. I want working moms to learn about all the resources available to learn about finances and earning extra income and to be able to have a community with other moms where they feel comfortable sharing their struggles and wins. There are very few personal finance and financially independent retire early (FIRE) blogs and communities that cater to working moms, so I want there to be a resource they can turn to get information that pertains to their lives.

When I started on the journey to learn how to invest money and how to earn more money, I only found blogs and forums that were resources for one or the other. I would find interesting blogs that would provide information on how to invest, yet they were written by men and didn’t give information on how to earn more. Or on the other hand, I would find “mommy” blogs that would share lots of ideas on how to make money from home, but they were for stay-at-home moms who only needed to earn $100 a month. As a working mom, I need to earn a significant amount of money each month from a side income in order to be able to consider leaving my job.

If you are a working mom who is scared right now because you are the breadwinner or a high income earner and you don’t know if you may lose your job in the next 3 months or if your income will be cut by 20%, then I want to help you. I want you to know that there are ways right now that you can prepare so that you can be ready for the unexpected, whether it be a furlough, job loss, or any change in your income. If you want ideas on how to earn extra income or want to know the best resources to begin learning how to invest, I will be sharing them on this blog, but please feel free to contact me here and I will provide resources that you can start looking at to help you.
